Order status explained: what each stage means

Every marketplace order moves through the same stages, and quality photos are approved before anything ships. Here is what each stage means and what you should be doing at each step.

Order status changes happen fast and the labels are not always self-explanatory. Here is exactly what each stage means on 3D Hub Plus.

1. Quote requested

You submitted files + a brief, makers are receiving the request. No action needed from you; you will get notifications as quotes come in.

Typical duration: 0–24 hours

2. Quoted

One or more makers responded. You can compare, ask questions in the chat, and accept one.

Your job: review quotes, pick a maker. Don't rush — but don't sit on it either: a quote is held for acceptance for 24 hours, after which the maker may withdraw or revise it.

3. Order placed (payment held)

You accepted a quote and paid. The charge sits on the platform's payment account — the maker can see the order is paid but cannot withdraw until you confirm delivery. The service fee is charged to you on top of the maker's price (current rate on the Pricing page); the maker keeps 100% of their quote.

Your job: nothing yet. The maker will start production.

4. Being printed

The maker is actively printing your part. Most makers share a photo of the live print or a post-cure shot.

Typical duration: 1–5 days depending on print time and queue

Your job: stay reachable on chat in case the maker has questions about orientation, support, or finishing details.

5. Quality check

Print is done and post-processed — supports cleaned, sanded, cured, painted or assembled as agreed. The maker uploads photos and the order waits on you. Nothing ships until you approve.

Your job: look at the photos and either approve, which releases the maker to ship, or request changes, which sends it back for a revision and a fresh set of photos.

Typical duration: a few hours to 2 days of maker work, plus however long you take to review

Fixed-price catalog orders skip this stage by design. A catalog item is a known, published product, so there is nothing for you to approve before it ships. Quality review exists for custom marketplace jobs, where the part has never been made before.

6. Shipped

You approved the photos and the package is handed to the carrier. You get a tracking number and ETA.

Typical duration in transit: 2–5 business days. The catalog ships within the United States only, and marketplace jobs are matched to makers in your own country — nothing crosses a border, so there are no customs steps in this stage.

7. Delivered (waiting for you to confirm)

The carrier says it arrived. You have 3 days to inspect the part and confirm delivery, request a revision, or open a dispute.

Your job: open the package, compare against the spec, confirm within 3 days. Funds release automatically once the window closes.

8. Completed

The hold is released and the maker is paid by transfer on the next daily payout run. The order is closed. You still have 7 days from completion to open a help request from the order page if a problem shows up after assembly.

If something goes wrong

At any stage, you can open a dispute from the order page. Our team reviews evidence (photos, chat history, original quote) and either releases a refund or splits the funds appropriately. Buyer protection is built in — you are not stuck with a bad print.

Messaging etiquette

  • Reply within 24 hours when makers ask clarifying questions — delays in the chat become delays in production.
  • Upload clear photos if you are flagging a defect.
  • Keep the chat on platform; off-platform conversations are not covered by buyer protection.
